9 Years of JUSTGO: From Campervans to what's next: Vancouver Island Travel + Media Brand

justgoThe JUSTGO Story

Nine years ago, JUSTGO started with campervans.

But it was never really just about the vans.

It was about what they made possible.

The roads. The beaches. The forests. The campsites. The people who arrived with an itinerary and came back with stories they had never planned to have.

And somewhere along the way, thousands of photographs, videos, traveller experiences, destination discoveries and Vancouver Island stories accumulated around them.

What began as a way to explore Vancouver Island from the road gradually became something much bigger:

A living archive of what it looks and feels like to experience Vancouver Island.

Today, JUSTGO is evolving that history into its next chapter — as an independent Vancouver Island travel + media brand built around exploration, storytelling and movement.

But to understand where JUSTGO is going, it helps to understand where it came from.

It Started With a Campervan

The original JUSTGO concept was wonderfully simple.

Get people out exploring.

Vancouver Island is built for it.

You can wake up near the ocean, drive through an old-growth forest before lunch and end the day somewhere completely different.

There are famous destinations like Tofino and Victoria.

But there are also hundreds of beaches, trails, communities, campgrounds, viewpoints and stretches of road that most visitors never hear about.

A campervan changes the way you experience those places.

Transportation and accommodation begin to merge.

The road becomes part of the trip.

And suddenly the question is not simply:

Where are we staying tonight?

It becomes:

Where should we go next?

That feeling became the foundation of JUSTGO.

Then One Van Became More

What started small grew.

More campervans.

More travellers.

More road trips.

More places being discovered.

JUSTGO became associated with classic Volkswagen campervans, Vancouver Island road trips and the freedom of being able to throw your things into a van and just...go.

Travellers arrived from across Canada and around the world to experience the Island.

Some came with detailed itineraries.

Others wanted recommendations.

Some barely had a plan at all.

And something interesting kept happening.

They came back with stories.

Some Travellers Called It Life-Changing

A road trip can sound like a simple thing.

Rent a vehicle.

Drive somewhere.

Camp.

Come home.

But that was not always how JUSTGO travellers described it.

For some, the experience became surprisingly meaningful.

There was something about temporarily stepping outside normal life, carrying less, moving every few days and waking up somewhere different that changed the experience.

The campervan was the physical vehicle.

But freedom, discovery and perspective were often the actual product.

That realization shaped how JUSTGO saw itself.

We were not simply sending vehicles onto the highway.

We were helping create experiences.

Media Coverage Was There From the Beginning

There was another thing happening simultaneously.

We documented it.

Constantly.

If we discovered somewhere incredible, we photographed it.

If the ocean looked unreal, we filmed it.

If we found a trail, campground, beach, community or stretch of road worth knowing about, we wanted other people to see it too.

And when JUSTGO travellers returned with their own photographs and stories, those became part of the evolving picture as well.

Over time, that behaviour created something we did not have a particularly sophisticated name for at the beginning:

a media library.

Not stock photography.

Not generic destination content.

Real Vancouver Island experiences captured over years of actually being here.

Campervans beside the Pacific.

Roads disappearing into forests.

Customers standing on beaches.

Ferries.

Wildlife.

Campgrounds.

Storms.

Sunsets.

Small communities.

Unexpected stops.

Thousands of moments.

More Than 5,000 Pieces of Vancouver Island Media

Nine years of exploring creates a lot of evidence.

Today, the broader JUSTGO archive contains a lot of original media connected to Vancouver Island travel, road trips, destinations and experiences.

Photos.

Video.

Social content.

Traveller experiences.

Destination footage.

Road-trip moments.

Some polished.

Some spontaneous.

Some captured because something extraordinary happened.

Others captured simply because the Island looked particularly good that day.

Collectively, they tell a much larger story.

Not simply where you can go on Vancouver Island.

What it can feel like when you get there.

Other People Started Telling the JUSTGO Story Too

JUSTGO’s relationship with Vancouver Island travel did not exist only on our own channels.

Over the years, the brand began appearing in third-party travel resources and publications.

Tourism Vancouver Island included JUSTGO among options for travellers looking to explore Vancouver Island from the road.

Paddling Magazine featured JUSTGO in its guide to adventurous things to do on Vancouver Island, highlighting not only the campervans and adventure vehicles, but the local knowledge around campsites and travel itineraries.

Outdoorsy shared part of the JUSTGO founder story and the evolution from the first campervan into a larger fleet.

Travellers shared experiences and photographs through review platforms and social media.

Different sources.

Different years.

But a remarkably consistent association:

JUSTGO + Vancouver Island + road trips + adventure + local knowledge + exploration.

The Vans Were Part of a Much Bigger System

Looking back, something becomes obvious.

The campervans were never separate from the media.

The road trips created the stories.

The stories created the media.

The media inspired other people to travel.

Those travellers created more experiences.

Those experiences created more stories.

And the cycle continued:

Explore → Experience → Capture → Share → Inspire → Explore again.

That is the system JUSTGO was building, whether we had formally named it yet or not.

The vehicles created movement.

The media created reach.

Vancouver Island supplied an almost endless source of discovery.

JUSTGO Is Changing

Today, JUSTGO is entering a different chapter.

JUSTGO's expanded vision is to grow into an independent Vancouver Island travel + media brand focused on immersive exploration, storytelling and movement across Vancouver Island and beyond.

Vehicle rentals, bookings, fleet operations and rental insurance are provided and managed separately by the rental operator.

JUSTGO’s role is broader.

That evolution is rooted in media. JUSTGO was created by Lisa Ostrikoff, founder of BizBOXTV, bringing years of professional media, storytelling and brand-building experience into a travel platform built around Vancouver Island.

Travel discovery.

Original media.

Destination storytelling.

Road-trip inspiration.

Community content.

Travel guides.

Video.

Photography.

And connecting people with ways to experience the places they discover.

The campervan remains part of the story.

It simply is not the entire story.

Campervans, RVs + Motorhomes Still Matter

Road travel remains one of the best ways to experience Vancouver Island.

So JUSTGO continues to connect travellers with campervan, RV and motorhome rental options while building a much larger discovery ecosystem around the journey itself.

Because choosing a vehicle answers only one question:

How are you going?

JUSTGO is increasingly interested in everything that comes after:

Where should you go?

What should you see?

What is worth stopping for?

What does Vancouver Island look like in February? July? November?

Where do locals go?

What happens beyond Tofino?

What does the Island look like from the water?

Where should you camp?

What should you pack?

And what might you discover that you never intended to find?

From Rental Brand to Travel + Media Brand

There is a tendency to describe this kind of evolution as a pivot.

That does not quite fit.

A pivot suggests abandoning one direction for another.

This feels more like zooming out far enough to finally see what was being built all along.

The rentals generated movement.

Movement generated experiences.

Experiences generated media.

Media generated discovery.

Discovery inspired more movement.

Nine years later, JUSTGO has the opportunity to connect all of those pieces deliberately.

Not simply as a campervan brand.

As a Vancouver Island travel + media network.

The Next Nine Years

There are still roads we have not driven.

Beaches we have not filmed.

Communities we want to spend more time in.

Stories we have not heard yet.

And thousands of people experiencing Vancouver Island every year who will see something we have never seen.

That is where the next version of JUSTGO gets interesting.

Because the media does not have to come only from us.

JUSTGO can become a place where travellers, locals, creators and businesses contribute to a constantly evolving picture of Vancouver Island.

A living travel network built from the people actually experiencing it.

Nine years ago, JUSTGO helped people find a van and hit the road.

Today, the canvas is considerably bigger.

The vans started the movement.

The media captured it.

Now - we hope to build the network.
